New Westminster - Based on information provided by the BC Ministry of Environment River Forecast Centre, the City of New Westminster wishes to advise residents that the Fraser River spring runoff peaked on May 26, 2008 and since then has been receding slowly. Given the current snow conditions there is a low probability for it to rise again past this late-May peak, which was below levels requiring a flood advisory or warning.

Recent river levels are normal and are primarily associated with natural high-tide cycles.

Though the 2008 Freshet did not require any mitigating action, the City of New Westminster would like to remind residents of the importance of being prepared for any emergency by reviewing their family emergency plan and keeping a well stocked emergency kit. For more information, please visit the Emergency Preparedness section at www.newwestcity.ca.
