New Westminster, BC - The City of New Westminster has hired Jennifer Peyton as its 150th Celebrations Coordinator to help plan activities and events honouring the Royal City’s sesquicentennial in 2009. Peyton is the owner of Peyton’s Occasions Productions, a local event planning company and is a resident of New Westminster.

“We are very pleased to have Jennifer on board as we continue with our plans to make New Westminster’s 150th celebrations a huge success,” said Rick Page, Chair of the city’s Celebrations Task Force. “Her energy and background in event planning and promotion are going to be a tremendous asset moving forward.”

To prepare for the 150th Celebrations, the City established the Celebrations Task Force last year with membership from local stakeholder groups including the Chamber of Commerce, Arts Council of New Westminster, Hyack Festival Association, Downtown Business Improvement Association, New Westminster Spirit Committee and others, as well as from Simon Fraser University and Douglas College. The task force held its inaugural meeting in January 2008 and has met on a number of occasions since then to plan the celebrations.

“I’m really excited to take on the Celebrations Coordinator role as the city makes plans for this special milestone in our history,” said Peyton. “With the help of the many talented people on the Celebrations Task Force, city staff and community members, we will make 2009 a year to remember in the Royal City.”
