New Westminster – City councillors, staff and local residents were on hand on Saturday, November 8th at a celebration to mark the start of construction on the new Moody Park Outdoor Pool. The $5 million project will replace the former Kiwanis Pool closed to the public following the summer of 2007.

“The new pool will provide recreation opportunities for all residents of the city,” said Mayor Wayne Wright. “This modern facility will serve to enhance the great amenities at Moody Park already available to the public.”

The Moody Park Outdoor Pool is designed for seasonal use to meet the aquatic recreation needs of the community. The new facility will include space for swimmers of all ages and abilities and will feature recreational swimming areas, three 25 metre swimming lanes and a dive tank with a one metre springboard. The pool deck will be sized to accommodate spectators and will include space for deck toys and activities as well as lounge chairs and shade umbrellas. The support building for the pool will include men’s, women’s and family change rooms and support service space in addition to year-round change rooms and two public washrooms.

Construction of the pool is managed by TASK Construction Management and will commence immediately with project completion scheduled for Summer 2009.
