New Westminster - Over the past 150 years, a dynamic matrix of stories, landscapes and traditions have emerged that are unique to our small city on the shores of the Fraser. Above all, it’s the people and their neighbourhood memories that have become the soul of our community. The New Westminster Museum and Archives is presenting these stories and memories in an exhibition that will last until May 2009.
“For the past twelve months we have been gathering new stories to add to our collection,” said Rob McCullough, Assistant Curator. “Whenever possible these stories have been presented in their original format in order to maintain authenticity. We’ve enhanced them only through the addition of photographs and objects from our collection.”
Several oral histories of long time New Westminster residents have been digitized so they are available to the public for the first time during this display. This display only scratches the surface of the depth of character found amongst New Westminster residents. “We’d love for people to share any new stories with our museum staff as they enjoy this first of three 150 th anniversary exhibits in 2009,” said McCullough.
The New Westminster Museum and Archives galleries are open to the public Wednesday through Sunday 12:00 to 4:00 pm.
Admission is by donation.
