New Westminster – The City of New Westminster has appointed a 2010 Torch Relay Celebration Committee to plan for the arrival of the Olympic Torch in the Royal City on February 9, 2010. New Westminster was selected as an official Torch Relay Celebration Community last November.

“With the eyes of the world focused on New Westminster as the Olympic Torch makes a stop in Queens Park, we want to ensure we have a celebration to remember,” said Mayor Wayne Wright. “The 2010 Torch Relay Celebration Committee will roll-up their sleeves and set to work right away to make plans for the torch’s arrival.”

Chaired by New Westminster Parks and Recreation Programmer Jay Young, committee members bring a broad range of expertise to the table. Members will serve their community in a volunteer capacity and will form a working group tasked with planning and organizing the City’s torch relay celebrations.
