New Westminster – The City of New Westminster is pleased to announce the appointment of Tim Armstrong to the position of Chief, City of New Westminster Fire and Rescue Service. The search for a new Chief, initiated in the spring of this year, attracted over one hundred applications from across the country.

Armstrong has a strong history of outstanding achievement spanning a twenty-eight year career with the Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services culminating in his role as Assistant Chief Special Operations/USAR Team Task Force Leader. As well as administrative and operational management expertise, he brings unique experience in leading programs in disaster response, dealing with hazardous materials, evacuation, emergency planning and public safety including leading a search and rescue team mission to assist the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

He has worked extensively with federal, provincial and municipal governments as well as private industry in developing fire service training and disaster readiness training including providing training to the first Taiwan Urban Search and Rescue team.

Tim will assume his new role on September 8, 2009.
