Reconciliation Process with the Chinese Community

Reconciliation Process with the Chinese Community
September 29, 2009

At the Regular Council meeting of July 13, 2009, City Council passed a motion “that staff research the history of racism and discrimination against the Chinese community and any role that the City played in these events ….”

Based on this motion, City staff will be preparing a background paper that documents the role, if any, that the City played in these events. City staff will also be implementing a consultation process to share the results of the research and to gain feedback and input from interested parties.

The first meeting will be held between 6:30 and 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 in the Birch and Cedar Rooms at Century House, 620 Eighth Street, New Westminster.
