New zero-emission Zamboni rolls in Moody Park Arena

New Westminster, BC – A new electric Zamboni was delivered to Moody Park Arena (MPA) over the Christmas break. The new machine replaces the electric Zamboni that had been in use at MPA since 1998.

“Our 11 year-old electric Zamboni had simply reached the end of its service life,” said Ron Booth, City of New Westminster Manager of Arenas and Queen’s Park Facilities. “The new Zamboni was the perfect Christmas gift for Moody Park Arena and will help allow us to keep the ice and air clean for years to come.”

Purchased for $135,000, the new electric ice re-surfacing machine was manufactured in southern California and runs on 40 batteries. Zero-emission Zambonis ensure that the air quality in arenas remain as clean as possible for users. The City of New Westminster was the first city in Metro Vancouver, and fourth in the province, to utilize zero-emission ice re-surfacing technology when it put its first electric Zamboni into operation at Moody Park Arena. A second electric Zamboni was purchased for Queen’s Park Arena in 2005.
