New Westminster Youth Firefighter Program announced
New Westminster, BC — New Westminster Fire and Rescue Services and the City’s Parks, Culture and Recreation department have partnered to offer a unique and exciting opportunity for youth interested in pursuing a career in Firefighting.
‘Today’s firefighters are required to know so much more in this ever-changing world than in the past,” said Tim Armstrong, Fire Chief. “I’m excited about the Youth Firefighter Program as it will give participants valuable life skills upon completion of this training.”
Running from May 7-9 2010, the Youth Firefighter Program will provide Grade 11 and 12 students an opportunity to experience a condensed fire academy situation.
“It is my hope that the Youth Firefighter Program will spark interest in our participants to pursue a career with New Westminster Fire & Rescue Services,” added Armstrong.
All youth interested in the Youth Firefighter Program are invited to pick-up an application form at any Parks, Culture and Recreation facility or Glenbrook Firehall #1 or by calling the Youth Services office at 604-515-3775. Applications are due March 19, 2010.
