Youth Centre @ Moody Park launches Olympic banner fundraiser

New Westminster, BC – New West residents have an opportunity to own a piece of Olympic history with the launch of the Youth Centre @ Moody Park’s Olympic street banner fundraising initiative. The banners are currently flying on lamp posts throughout the city and were erected to celebrate the arrival of the Olympic torch in February. The banners are now available in exchange for a donation to the Youth Centre @ Moody Park campaign to raise $200,000 to furnish and equip the new centre when construction is completed this spring.

“The Olympic street banners are beautiful and have really helped our community show our Olympic spirit,” said Campaign Co-chair Isabel Gomez-Garcia. “This initiative is a great way for people to own a piece of Olympic history while helping us to reach our fundraising goal for the new Youth Centre @ Moody Park.”

Olympic street banners are available in sets of two, with each banner in the set featuring a unique design. For $100, donors will receive a set of Olympic banners as well as a set of two City of New Westminster 150th banners that flew throughout the city in celebration of our sesquicentennial in 2009. Additional sets of 150th street banners will be packaged with 150th souvenir items and made available for a donation of $30.

Banner packages are available now and may be purchased at Century House, 620 Eighth Street.

“Anyone interested in the banners is encouraged to make their donation right away as numbers are limited,” said Sandon Fraser, Youth Services Coordinator for New Westminster Parks, Culture and Recreation.
