Chinese Reconciliation Process

At its meeting of July 13, 2009, New Westminster City Council passed a motion “that staff research the history of racism and discrimination against the Chinese community and any role that the City played in these events.”
 
Based on this motion, City staff conducted research into the role that the City played in these events and held two public meetings, the latter attracting more 75 participants. The results of this research informed a Report to Council.
 
At its meeting of March 22, 2010, Council approved the following motion: “that the first phase of the project – research and documentation – be concluded and that City staff commence the second phase of the project – enter into a discussion regarding appropriate steps towards reconciliation.”

在2009å¹´7月13日的會議上﹐新西敏市議會通過一項動議﹕“職員蒐集資料﹐了解華裔社群遭受種族偏見和歧視的歷史﹐以及市政府在這些事件上扮演了什麼角色。”
