New Westminster to host Shanghai Expo Photographic Exhibition at Royal City Centre

New Westminster, BC – The City of New Westminster, in partnership with the Association of Chinese Cultural Promotion of Canada and Royal City Centre, is pleased to present a Shanghai Expo Photographic Exhibition from September 8th to 26th.

“Many residents will recall Expo 86 in Vancouver,” said Mayor Wayne Wright. “This photographic exhibition will provide a wonderful retrospective look at the history of the World Expo through the years as well as shine a spotlight on this year’s expo in Shanghai, China. We’re proud to host it right here in The Royal City.”

Previously held at the Chinese Cultural Centre in Vancouver and at Aberdeen Centre in Richmond, this is the first time a lower mainland municipality has hosted the exhibition. Through a series of 80 photographic panels, the history of the World Expo will unfold, including the Montreal Expo of 1967 and the Vancouver Expo in 1986. Sixty of the panels will focus on this year’s Expo in Shanghai, including photos of pavilions and artist renderings.

“The displays provide an opportunity for local residents to be a part of the Shanghai Expo without having to leave the city,” said Greg Magirescu, Manager of Arts and Culture Development. “It’s a great way to experience the magnificent architecture and 2010 World Expo pavilions from right here at home.”

The 2010 Shanghai Expo Photo Exhibition will be open during mall hours at Royal City Centre from September 8th to the 26th and is free to the public. The official ribbon-cutting for the exhibition opening will take place on Wednesday, September 8th at 10am in the Royal City Centre mall atrium, at the corner of 6th Street and 6th Avenue in New Westminster.
