With its nearby transit, road links, walking and bike trails, the City’s convenient location at the centre of Metro Vancouver makes travel easy to all surrounding communities. New Westminster is connected with five Sky Train stations providing rapid transit access to points throughout the region.

By Road

New Westminster’s location at the geographic centre of Metro Vancouver makes our city easily accessible by major highways and roads in the lower mainland. Travelling along Highway 1, the Brunette South exit enters New Westminster city limits at Sapperton, with easy access to downtown along Columbia Street. Exits to New Westminster are clearly marked travelling along Highway 91. From Surrey, follow the King George Highway over the Pattullo Bridge and from Burnaby, Southeast Marine Drive, Kingsway and Canada Way all lead to the Royal City.

By Public Transit

New Westminster is easily accessed by SkyTrain, the region’s automated light rail system. There are five SkyTrain stations in New Westminster:

  • 22nd Street (on 7th Avenue at 22nd Street)
  • New Westminster (at Columbia and 8th Street)
  • Columbia (Columbia and 4th Street)
  • Sapperton (foot of Keary Street and East Columbia)
  • Braid (Braid Street and Brunette Avenue)

By Air

From Vancouver International Airport:

Follow the directional signs leading from Richmond and Vancouver via the Arthur Laing Bridge. From the bridge, take the Marine Drive East Exit. Continue along until it turns into Marine Way (about a 15-20 minute drive) and pass under the Queensborough Bridge on to Stewardson Way staying in the right-hand lane heading into downtown New Westminster.
