Electrical Utility Billing

Electrical service in the City of New Westminster is supplied to most residential and commercial residents of the City by the City's own Electrical Utility. At present there are approximately 26,000 Residential customers and another 3,000 Commercial customers in New Westminster. The rates charged by the City are the same as those charged by B.C. Hydro.

Property Taxes
The City of New Westminster bills property taxes to all City property owners once each year. They are billed late in May and have a due date of the first working day after July 1st. The City collects approximately $76 million each year from roughly 19,000 taxable properties. Of this amount, approximately $31 million is collected for other government agencies including School Taxes, GVRD, Translink, and others. The remaining $45 million is retained by the city to fund the many services provided to its residents.

Purchasing
The goal of the Purchasing Department of the Corporation of the City of New Westminster is to procure goods and services for the City which represent the "Best Value" for the city and all it's taxpayers. Best value includes many characteristics including but not limited to: availability, suitability, serviceability, transportation, required training, warranty, design, overall life cycle cost implications, and other significant applicable characteristics.

Water, Sewer, and Garbage Utility Billing
The City of New Westminster supplies Water, Sewer and Garbage services to its residents. Residential customers are billed an annual flat rate for each in February of each year. Commercial and Industrial customers are billed monthly on the basis of regularly scheduled water meter readings. Sewer is billed quarterly (on every third month water bill) on the basis of 80% of the billed water consumption for the preceding three months.
