Burnaby to New Westminster Transmission Project

Burnaby to New Westminster Transmission Project

To continue to reliably meet the growing demand for electricity in the New Westminster area, BC Hydro is carrying out upgrades to New Westminster Substation. This project will start in January 2012 and is scheduled for completion in August 2013.

The project involves installing new equipment at New Westminster Substation (located on Ovens near Colborne St). As well, a new underground transmission circuit will connect New Westminster Substation to an existing transmission line located near Lakefield Drive in a right-of-way close to the edge of Robert Burnaby Park. This new circuit will be constructed under existing road ways and road allowances.

Traffic Advisory - Ovens Ave $ Colborne St area
During this time, the traffic lanes on Ovens Ave and Colborne St adjacent to the substation will be closed to provide additional working area for construction crews, trailers and equipment. Two-way traffic will be maintained along Colborne St.

Public parking will be removed on Colborne St, across the street from the substation, to maintain enough road width for two-way traffic flow.

On Ovens Ave, one-way traffic travelling from 1st St to Colborne St will be maintained.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
