Volunteer BC

Excellence in Volunteerism to Build a Better British Columbia

Who is Volunteer BC?

Volunteer BC is a provincial association of volunteer centres, other voluntary organizations and individuals working together to strengthen the growth and development of voluntary action in British Columbia.

Currently, there are over thirty volunteer centres in British Columbia, with several others in the development stage. These centres play a key role in promoting and supporting effective volunteering in our communities.

Volunteer centres work with a broad range of organizations across the voluntary sector including human and social services, health care, education, arts, sports and recreation. They provide recruitment, referral and support services to these organizations, disseminate information on volunteer management and programming, provide training for volunteers and managers of volunteers, and advocate on issues related to volunteerism and volunteer programs.

Volunteer BC Goals

Volunteer BC serves the network of volunteer centres across British Columbia with the following goals:

  • Increase visibility and awareness of volunteerism in British Columbia
  • Encourage and facilitate the sharing of information and resources on volunteerism
  • Facilitate effective relationships among organizations and individuals committed to effective voluntary action
  • Support new and existing volunteer centres
  • Volunteer BC Activities
  • Maintains and distributes a Directory of BC Volunteer Centres
  • Produces a quarterly newsletter
  • Promotes and provides training opportunities across the province
  • Coordinates the sale of volunteer recognition and promotional materials
  • Advocates on issues affecting the volunteer sector such as screening programs, the role of volunteer centres, integration of people with disabilities and those with English as a second language, cultural diversity and changes in the delivery of non-profit services.
