 Biographical Information

Bill Harper has been a resident of New Westminster for almost 30 years and has served as a Councillor with the City since 2005. A graduate from Simon Fraser University, Bill worked as the National Staff Representative for the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) for 14 years.

Bill was a member of the provincial government’s Education Advisory Council for 9 years as a representative for CUPE. He was also a member of the Ministry of Children and Families’ Protocol Committee which developed protocol for children with special needs and those in residential care facilities. Bill was a member of the Minister’s Review Committee on the new Safety Standards Legislation and Regulations for Compulsory Trades, as well as a member of the Heavy Industry Training Advisory Committee which currently is establishing a new Industrial Electrician Trade for British Columbia.

Bill is an active volunteer in the community serving as Chair of the Arts Commission, the Economic Development Advisory Committee, the Seniors Advisory Committee and the Multi Use Civic Facility Task Force . He is also a Council representative on the Arts Council of New Westminster, the GVRD Labour Relations Bureau, the Tourism BC Community Tourism Foundation Program and the alternate representative on the Hyack Festival Association Board. Bill was also the Chair of the Save Saint Mary’s Coalition, and spent 10 years coaching minor hockey in New Westminster.

 

Bill and his wife Delora have two children Damion and Devon, and have two grandchildren.
