Biographical Information
A long-time resident of the Royal City, Councillor Betty McIntosh has called New Westminster home since arriving in Sapperton as a student nurse in 1968. She has worked at Royal Columbian Hospital since 1971, specializing in emergency care, and is a former school nurse at New Westminster Secondary.
With a keen interest in youth and health care issues, Betty has applied her energy to numerous volunteer activities over the years, including serving an Auxiliary Member of Dunwood Place, Director of Fraserside Community Services and through her 25-year involvement with the Girl Guides. In addition, she is a proud member of The Hyack Festival and also an active volunteer with Irving House Museum.
Betty was elected to New Westminster Council in 1996, 1999, 2005, 2008 and 2011. During her time on Council she has served on 16 committees and commissions. She currently Chairs the Family Court Committee, the Special Services and Access Committee, the Hyack Festival Association Board and is the alternate Chair of the Fraser Health Authority: Municipal Government Advisory Council. She is also a member of the Community Heritage Commission and the International Relations Task Force, and is Alternate Chair of the Massey Performing Arts Centre Task Force. Betty is a Council Representative on the Correctional Services Canada Joint Committee for Community Corrections and alternate representative on the Fraser Health Authority: Municipal Government Advisory Council.
Married to husband Ken since 1971, Betty has three adult children residing in New Westminster, Scott, Tami and Lisa.
