Biographical Information

First elected in 2005, Councillor Jonathan X. Cote is currently serving his third term on New Westminster City Council.

Jonathan was born in New Westminster and resides here with his wife Alix and their daughters Renee Sarah, Leah and Violet. Prior to being elected to City Council, he attended Simon Fraser University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Jonathan’s undergraduate degree focus was in History and Political Science supported by studies in Economics and Urban Planning, areas of interest that he continues to draw upon as he carries out his Council duties.

As a New Westminster Councillor, Jonathan has earned a reputation as a strong advocate for the concepts of sustainability, affordability and liveability and has encouraged that City Council deliberations be viewed through these lenses.

Jonathan has been involved in a number of committees during his time on Council. He currently serves as Chair of the Bicycle and Pedestrian and Parks and Recreation Committees, and Co-chair of the Master Transportation Plan Advisory Committee. He is also a member of the Queensborough Community Centre Expansion Task Force and is an alternate Council representative on the Lower Mainland Treaty Advisory Committee, the Metro Vancouver Board of Directors and the GVRD Labour Relations Bureau.

In his spare time, Councillor Cote enjoys New Westminster ’s recreation facilities with his family and stays active curling, hiking and playing tennis.
