City of New Westminster involvement in high school (NWSS) replacement project

New Westminster - The City of New Westminster and School District #40 have been engaged in discussions to formulate an overall agreement for the delivery of three new schools in New Westminster. There are several matters requiring clarification around the responsibilities and commitments of each agency to the project, and key decisions that need to be made prior to an overall agreement being reached.

Significant planning and process work has been completed for the St. Mary’s site and Robson/Simcoe Park site. With respect to the NWSS site, staff have been focused on developing and reviewing options that satisfy School District, Ministry of Education, and City requirements.

The City will be completing its technical review of NWSS site options for review by Council by the end of January. City Council will then discuss its preferred site options with the School District. Following deliberations between Council and the School District, it is anticipated that further discussion with the public will take place.

City staff have been working closely with the School District project team to reach a successful conclusion to the challenges presented by the NWSS site.
