New Westminster – The artistic talents of local students will be on display at Glenbrook Middle School on March 31st, 2009 as classes throughout the school district showcase art projects depicting the Royal City’s 150 years of history “through the eyes of our children.” This unique program is a result of a partnership between the 150th Celebrations Office, New Westminster Museum and Archives, the Royal City Education Foundation and School District #40.

Facilitated by local artists Jill Doyle and Diane Moran and funded by a $20,000 grant from the Heritage Legacy Fund, the “My Neighbourhood, My City….through the eyes of our children” program will raise awareness among school children of New Westminster’s history and the significant events that shaped the development of our city.

“This program is a great way to involve local kids in our 150th celebrations,” said Jennifer Peyton, 150th Celebrations Coordinator. “School children benefit by learning the rich history of the Royal City and the whole community benefits through the legacy artwork the students produce.”

On March 31, 2009 from 7pm – 9pm, please join us as we celebrate New Westminster’s 150th anniversary and reveal the students’ art projects. The evening will include performances by the Massey Theatre IAM program and NWSS Debating Team.
