The City of New Westminster has in place an initiative to enhance the protection and personal safety of children who attend City of New Westminster facilities.
With support from the Canadian Centre for Child Protection (C3P), New Westminster Parks and Recreation department will examine and enhance the safety policies, reporting procedures and staff training at City-operated facilities in order to help protect children from sexual abuse and exploitation.
The Commit to Kids program offers a multi-facilitated approach to preventing child sexual abuse in child-serving organizations, such as sport leagues, schools, childcare centres, music programs, recreation programs and services, etc. There are also resources available for parents, so together with the organization, adults can take an active, participatory role in protecting children in their care.
About the Canadian Centre for Child Protection: The Canadian Centre for Child Protection is a national charity dedicated to the personal safety of children. Its goal is to reduce the sexual abuse and exploitation of children, assist in the location of missing children, and to prevent child victimization. The Canadian Centre operates Cybertip.ca — Canada’s tip line for reporting child sexual abuse and exploitation on the internet, as well as other intervention, prevention and education services to the Canadian public.
