Queen's Park Arena wins 2020 Outstanding Facility Award

The New Westminster Parks and Recreation department is pleased to announce that Queen’s Park Arena has received the 2020 Bill Woycik Outstanding Facility Award from the Recreation Facilities Association of BC (RFABC).

The Bill Woycik Outstanding Facility Award honours W.E. “Bill” Woycik, a Past President of the Recreation Facilities Association of BC (RFABC). The award recognizes one outstanding recreation, sport or leisure facility in British Columbia each year that is relatively new, or a newly renovated facility demonstrating efficiencies in operation, energy management, and services.

Built in 1930, Queen’s Park Arena has a long and storied history as a recreation facility known for hosting ice hockey, lacrosse, minor sports associations, tournaments and special events. With the support of Mayor and City Council, management and staff have worked hard to maintain and upgrade the arena over the years to provide a first-class facility for users. Showing leadership in this era of climate change, notable upgrades have included the installation of energy efficient LED lighting throughout the facility, use of electric ice resurfacers, and most recently the introduction of Electric Vehicle charging stations in the parking area of the arena.

The commitment to preventative maintenance and carefully chosen upgrades allows Queen’s Park Arena to continue offer excellent multi-purpose spaces for a range of community programs and services while retaining its history and charm.
