What's New
eMobility Strategy

At their regular Council meeting on June 27, 2022, New Westminster’s City Council adopted the City’s first eMobility Strategy. Greenhouse gas emissions from transportation make up nearly half of the community’s emissions. This Strategy will help accelerate the adoption of electric modes of transportation, thereby significantly reducing emissions.

The Strategy includes actions for supporting the adoption of electric vehicles – primarily by strategically growing the charging infrastructure – and the adoption of electric micromobility devices like e-bikes. Ideas like exploring the creation of an e-bike share system, enhancing secure e-bike parking options, and creating clear regionally consistent e-micromobility regulations can reduce barriers to these emerging ways of getting around.

The City looks forward to moving into implementation of this Strategy, as one of the ways we are looking to be innovative and bold in our efforts to address the climate emergency.
