Registration start times are changing from 8:30 am to 10:00 am for all courses, day camps and reserved sessions, to better accommodate families dropping off children at school for 9:00 am. In addition, there will be two registration openings per season. For the summer season, Day Camps will open on May 11, and remaining summer programs and lessons will open on June 8. Reservations for spring drop-in sessions will continue to open at 8:30 am, and will change to 10:00 am for the summer season starting on June 28 for New Westminster residents, and June 29 for everyone.
Going forward, Day Camp registration will start approximately six-weeks prior to the start of the next season. Day Camps will include half-day and full-day courses listed for a full week, or single days planned on local school non-instructional days (look for courses titled “School’s Out”). This programming is aimed at supporting the childcare needs of New Westminster families. A new “Camps” section of the Active Living Guide will list camps together by age and area of interest.
Program and lesson registration will start approximately three-weeks prior to the start of the next season. This schedule will allow more students to receive their activity outcomes (necessary to register for the next level in gymnastics, trampoline, skating, and swimming) prior to the next seasons’ registration date.
“We have heard and responded to public, staff, and City Council members who have expressed a desire to reduce the challenges of registering for recreation programs,” said Corrinne Garrett, Senior Manager Recreation Facilities and Programs, Parks & Recreation. “Changing our registration time, and separating day camp and lesson registration dates are the first steps, and we intend to implement additional improvements in the near future.”
