Canadian Union of Postal Workers Strike

UPDATE November 15, 2024: Canada Post announced it has commenced strike action this morning. 

As such, businesses or residents may experience delays in receiving business licence notices, final outstanding property tax and utility notices, payments, and other critical documents. For any outstanding balances, fees, or charges, daily interest may apply.

BUSINESS LICENCES

All business licences expire on December 31 each year and most renew automatically. The City’s Business Licensing division sends licence renewal invoices in late-November each year to business owners and are due and payable by January 31 each year.​

Business owners can renew their business licence online quickly and easily by clicking here. Simply enter the account number and pay the balance due. A new business licence will be mailed to you once your payment has been processed.

Property taxes & utility bills

Residents can easily register for MyCity, a secure, all-in-one, online service that allows residents and businesses to access information about City of New Westminster accounts, view current and past bills, view payment history, and register for eBilling. It's easy to use and all information is protected by private access codes.

NOTE: electrical utility information is not available on MyCity. Please login into Customer Connect to view electrical utility account information.

Vendor payment

Vendors and customers working with the City should contact our Accounts Payable department at  to discuss any potential issues with cheque payment sent through the mail and other payment options.

As of November 12, 2024:

Canada Post National Executive Board has issued a 72-hour strike notice for both Rural and Suburban Mail Carriers and Urban bargaining units. This notice, issued on Tuesday, November 12, means that as of Friday, November 15, these units are legally permitted to begin job action if settlements have not been reached through ongoing negotiations.

As we monitor these developments, the City of New Westminster encourages you to subscribe to online platforms such as Customer Connect and MyCity to ensure timely receipt of property taxes and utility bills. By subscribing, you can reduce any potential mail delays related to this or future postal disruptions.
