On February 24th, Seniors Services Society is walking in the Coldest Night of the Year – a winter fundraiser for seniors 60+ in our community who need support. It’s a short walk really – only an hour or so – but this walk will help us provide much needed services to local seniors. Metro Vancouver is facing a housing crisis right now, and Seniors Services Society is seeing first-hand the rising numbers of seniors who are homeless or at severe risk of homelessness.
In the last year our three unique housing programs provided:
- Individualized housing counselling to over 2,000 seniors,
- one-on-one housing outreach to 268 seniors who are homeless or severely at-risk, and
- temporary Housing to 25 homeless seniors in need of a place to call home while they look for permanent housing
Unfortunately, we had to turn 600 seniors away as we were at max staff capacity. This year we are hoping to raise $35,000 through our Coldest Night of the Year Walk, and raise awareness in our community with over 150 people joining us to walk 2, 5 or km.
Registration opens at 4:00 pm; walk begins at 5:00 pm; light dinner is served from 6:00-8:00 pm; distance: 2, 5 or 10 km- your choice!
Registration is only $25 ($40 during event week), but if you fundraise $150, the fee is waived! We would love to have you join us for this great event.
