Workers killed or injured on the job will be remembered in a ceremony co-hosted by the New Westminster & District Labour Council and the City of New Westminster.
This year will mark the 27th annual Day of Mourning. Observances this year will highlight the Canadian Labour Congress’s campaign, Violence and Harassment: Not part of the job. Many workers are at risk of violence and all workers can suffer bullying and harassment at work from the public, employers, clients or co-workers. Union members in BC continue to advocate for strong workplace Health and Safety regulations, knowing that through education and accountability measures worker deaths and injuries can be prevented.
Speakers will include Labour Council President Lori Mayhew, Mayor Jonathan Cote, New Westminster City Councillor Chuck Puchmayr, British Columbia Teacher’s Federation First Vice-President Terri Mooring and Owen Goodwin of the United Steelworkers Union Local 2009.
