HOST: CANDICE JAMES, Poet Laureate Emerita, New Westminster, BC
Rod Deakin-Drown will launch his debut poetry book on Saturday, October 5th at Anvil Centre 4th Floor. Joining Rod will be mini-features Cynthia Sharp and Janet Kvammen, and the event will also present the musical stylings of Enrico Renz.
Rod has written other non-fiction and fiction books and has had his poetry published in many well known anthologies over the past 40 years, but this is his first full collection of poetry published by Silver Bow Publishing. He co-wrote the book No Dog Barked with Ken MacIntosh a couple of years ago. It is the true story of a New Westminster cold case double murder that took place on 5th Street near 10th Avenue in the late 60s. 'Between the Empty and the All’ is a large poetic journey encompassing the spiritual and ethereal as it walks alongside the emotional and casual moments that pervade the human experience. It’s romantic and inspirational, yet grounded and real. Deakin-Drown’s approach to poetry is familiar and soothing; fresh and exciting. A myriad of moods dip, sashay and sway their way through the pages in a silver screen rendition of nostalgia and longing where there are only a few sparse pieces left behind on the cutting room floor. Feel the rhythm and heartbeat moving within the poetic lines … then, step into the poet’s dance. ~ Candice James, Poet Laureate Emerita, New Westminster, BC
