Music:
2:15 - 3:00 pm and 3:45 - 4:30 pm featuring Torben Brown
Torben Brown is a Vancouver based songwriter, working in multiple genres, and drawing on a uniquely broad palette of rock, blues, jazz and roots styles. The Yellowknife born guitarist/singer-songwriter has lived and travelled broadly, and draws on a pan-Canadian and Scandinavian heritage.
Lush chord progressions and tremolo drenched spaghetti-western twang are joined with country-noir simplicity and reckless abandon. Reflective, provocative, worthwhile lyrics and smart song setting take you through a brooding, evocative and frenzied world that is all at once bizarre, familiar, beautiful and haunting. Torben’s onstage presence is heady, intense, and disarming, and there is a palpable, intoxicating quality to his performance style. You can feel how much fun he’s having and you’ll be carried along.
This project is funded in part by the Government of Canada through the Celebration and Commemoration Program, Department of Canadian Heritage. Presented in partnership with: Arts Council of New Westminster, New West Farmers Market and Downtown New West BIA.
