From Displacement to Housing Justice: A Conversation on Black Housing Precarity in Metro Vancouver Wednesday, February 15th, 6:30-8:00pm Douglas College, New Westminster Campus, 700 Royal Avenue, N2201 (campus map link below) Please join us to learn more about Black histories and futures in an evening of storytelling about the hidden history of Hogan’s Alley in Vancouver, the development of the Sixth Street Housing Project in New Westminster, and the problem of Black housing precarity both past and present in Metro Vancouver. The event will include a film screening of Secret Vancouver: Return to Hogan’s Alley and feature a panel discussion with housing advocates, professionals, and policymakers in New Westminster. Greeting by Elder Sandra Greene, Douglas College. Presentation by Lama Mugabo, Founding Director of Hogan’s Alley Society and Community Action Network Campaign Manager with the BC Poverty Reduction Coalition. Panel discussion with: Margaret Wanyoke, Community Action Network Leader and New Westminster Resident; Lynn Roxburgh, Supervisor of Land Use Planning Policy, City of New Westminster; Kent Patenaude, President, Lu’ma Native Housing Society; and Jean-Claude Bakundukize, Swahili Vision International. This event will be catered with food to be served starting at 6:00pm. Everyone is welcome, and no registration is required to attend the event.
