Xoan X’il (Spain), Ali Miharbi (Turkey), Cristhian Avila Cipriani (Peru)

Jun 09 - Aug 18, 2024

Three artists from Peru, Spain and Turkey explore how the breath can be interpreted through objects, through our bodies and through complex technologies.

Ali Miharbi re-creates the physicality of human speech, by scanning and printing 3D voice-boxes & trachea that whisper the rudimentary beginnings of speech (phonemes).  Xoan X'il recreates instrumental bird sounds, created by18th Century Spanish instruments...a result of Spain's contact with pre-columbian peoples and their  pristine, natural environment.  Cristhian Avila Cipriani is given permission by a museum in Lima to recreate ancient, pre-columbian wind instruments through 3-D scanning and printing.  These simple instruments are played in the gallery by bringing in breath (wind data) from a windmill in Peru.
