Bill Harper has been a resident of New Westminster for almost 36 years and has served as a Councillor with the City since 2005.
A graduate from Simon Fraser University, Bill worked as the National Staff Representative for the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) for 14 years.
Bill was a member of the provincial government’s Education Advisory Council for 9 years as a representative for CUPE. He was also a member of the Ministry of Children and Families’ Protocol Committee which developed protocol for children with special needs and those in residential care facilities. Bill was a member of the Minister’s Review Committee on the new Safety Standards Legislation and Regulations for Compulsory Trades, as well as a member of the Heavy Industry Training Advisory Committee which currently is establishing a new Industrial Electrician Trade for British Columbia.
Bill is the Chair of the Economic Development Advisory Committee, the Intelligent City Advisory Committee and the Residents’ Association Forum. Bill also serves as a member of the Mayor’s Task Force on Economic Health Care Cluster and the Railway Community Advisory Panel.
He is also a Council representative on the New Westminster Tourism Board and Metro Utility Committee. Bill was also the Chair of the Save Saint Mary’s Coalition, and spent 10 years coaching minor hockey in New Westminster.
Bill and his wife Delora have two children Damion and Devon, and have two grandchildren.
