It supports everything from arts, culture, and sports to social services and community celebrations. Through these grants, residents can enjoy new opportunities, connect with their neighbours, and see the positive impact of local initiatives. Community Grants at a Glance
- Purpose: The Community Grants program helps local organizations create programs, events, and services that make New Westminster a vibrant, healthy, and inclusive city.
- Who benefits: Residents of all ages, interests, and backgrounds.
- Who delivers the programs: Local non-profits, volunteer groups, charities, and other eligible organizations.
- Impact: Grants support creative projects, community celebrations, social services, and cultural and recreation activities.

If you applied, you will receive funding information in early 2026.
2027 Community Grants
The 2027 application intake is expected in fall 2026.
You will be able to download the updated Application Guide and supporting documents before the intake opens.
Eligibility
Fired Up for Football — Special One-Time Grants
You can apply if you are based in New Westminster, or if your activity takes place in the city and benefits residents.
You are eligible if you apply as:
- Individuals: You must apply with another person. One person is the Applicant and one is the Co-Applicant.
- Community groups: Unincorporated groups that operate for community benefit.
- Non-profit societies: Incorporated under BC or federal legislation. Charitable status is not required.
- Registered charities
- Service organizations that:
- Deliver their own programs, or
- Donate to local community organizations
- Religious organizations if activities:
- Benefit the broader community
- Do not include religious teachings
- Do not generate revenue
- Organizations based outside New Westminster if activities:
- Take place in New Westminster
- Clearly benefit residents
- Offer services not already available locally
- New Westminster-based businesses with a valid business license if activities:
- Benefit the broader community
- Do not promote or financially benefit the business
Co-applicant requirements
All one-time grant applications must include two people.
- One person submits the application as the Applicant.
- You must list a Co-Applicant with contact information.
- City staff may contact the Co-Applicant to confirm their involvement.
New Westminster Community Grants
You are eligible if you apply as:
- Community groups operating for community benefit
- Non-profit societies incorporated under BC or federal legislation
- Registered charities
- Service organizations that:
- Deliver their own programs, or
- Donate to local community organizations
- Religious organizations if activities:
- Benefit the broader community
- Do not include religious teachings
- Do not generate revenue
- Organizations based outside New Westminster if activities:
- Take place in New Westminster
- Clearly benefit residents
- Offer services not already available locally
You are not eligible if:
- An individual (except for sport travel grants)
- A for-profit business
- An organization whose sole purpose is fundraising for other groups
- An organization whose principles or activities conflict with the BC Human Rights Code or the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms
Portfolios and Grant Types
Fired Up for Football — Special One-Time Intake
Fired Up for Football is a one-time grant that supports free, low-barrier community activities.
Your activity must celebrate global sport, culture, and community, inspired by soccer’s biggest international tournament.
You can apply if your activity:
- Welcomes and includes the community
- Builds connection and belonging
- Celebrates diverse cultures and/or soccer in creative ways
- Reflects community values in New Westminster

Community Livability and Social Equity
You can apply for this portfolio if your project:
- Reduces vulnerability among community members
- Improves community safety and quality of life
- Supports access to high-quality child care
- Improves the urban or natural environment and supports climate action

Social and Cultural Vibrancy
You can apply for this portfolio if your project in arts, culture, heritage, sport, or recreation:
- Expands participation
- Builds community vibrancy, expression, and creativity
- Recognizes and engages with local heritage
- Creates opportunities for achievement and innovation

Community Economic Activators
You can apply for this portfolio only if your organization is one of the following:
- A New Westminster Business Improvement Association
- A New Westminster Chamber of Commerce
- A New Westminster association whose main purpose is to promote tourism in the city

Steps by Step Instructions
- Register with your email address.
- Enter the six-digit verification code sent to your email.
- Complete your profile.
In your application, you will provide:
- Contact information
- A description of your activities
- A budget showing how you will use the funds
- Supporting documents or sample marketing materials

City Services
If you need City Services—such as traffic control, fire or police support, engineering, barricades, signage, or waste management—you must request a quote before you apply.
- City services are provided as a cash-equivalent grant.
- Your total request for cash and City services must not exceed $75,000
- Email to request a quote.
- Allow up to four weeks to receive your quote
Important
- City facility rental fees are not eligible as City Services.
- You may include these costs in your cash grant request.
- Contact the facility directly to request a rental quote
- Attach the quote to your application.

Reporting Requirements
If you received a 2026 Community Grant, you must complete an online Grant Report Form. This report shows how your funded activities benefited the community.
How to access your report
- Log in to newwestcity.grantplatform.com
- Find the Grant Report Form in the left-hand menu.
Important deadline
- Submit your completed report, including all required receipts, by December 1, 2026.
- You must submit your report to receive your grant funds.
If you received a 2026 Community Grant, you must participate in Love New West 2027 on February 6, 2027.
Logo and acknowledgement
If you receive a grant, you must acknowledge the City’s financial support on all program or event communications. This includes posters, websites, news releases, signage, and social media.
Not acknowledging the City may affect future grant decisions.

Advisory Committee Recruitment
You can apply to join a Grant Advisory Committee in 2026.
When you join a committee, you:
- Gain experience in local grant making
- Connect with community members
- Review applications for the Community Grants program

On February 7, 2026, 44 Community Partners gathered at Anvil Centre for the first ever Love New West. The event focused on sharing the impact of their 2025 activities.
If you received a 2026 Community Grant, you must participate in Love New West 2027.
