      • How to find balance in the water to produce less struggle.
      • Practice techniques to create strong muscle memory.

      About Breaking Waves:

Students experience success through progressive skill development in a positive and supportive learning environment. The program

      • Creates a beneficial learning environment. Lessons run at times with limited competing programs.
      • Invest in our instructors. Knowing that a program is only as strong as the deliver, instructor's receive professional development throughout their career with us.

There is always an Assistant Program Coordinator available to assist parents or students in any way needed. They provide:

      • Customer Service
      • Develop staff skills and knowledge
      • Ensure program consistency.

      Registration Information

      Unsure of swim level?

Free swim evaluations are offered during any of our Public Swim times. One of our lifeguards will be happy to do an assessment of your child which takes approximately 5 minutes.

Transition your lessons to or from another municipality.

Many local municipalities, such as Burnaby and Coquitlam, follow the Swim for Life program which differs from the New Westminster swim program you may be used to.

We recommend contacting the facility you are registered with, especially if a child has not been swimming for a while, to confirm all necessary requirements. Swim assessments may be required, and are available at no cost for most programs, to ensure you are registering for the correct level. To get started with your transition, please see the chart below.

What is my New Westminster swim level? You can find your recommended New Westminster swim level in your online account by going to My Profile > My Info > Activity Outcomes.

      • Who will operate the food services space?
The City is currently exploring options to move forward with operating the food services space. These options includes but are not limited to internal city food services and external vendors. Next steps will come early 2026. If the decision is an external vendor, a formal process for interested parties will be available on our website.
      • When will the food services space be operational?
Many steps need to take place in order to ensure the space best reflect the community needs. The approximate anticipated date is in 2026; however, a more specific time frame is dependent on the course of action decided in the coming months.
      • Why is the City asking about food services?
The City connected in-person in the lobby of təməsew̓txʷ Aquatic and Community Centre in early March 2025. The feedback has helped us understand what the community is hoping to see in the space and the data gathered has help guide decision-making.
      • Are there any current food services at təməsew̓txʷ Aquatic and Community Centre?
The facility currently hosts two vending machines on level 1 by the large gymnasium and two vending machines on level 2 by the universal washrooms. The facility has a dedicated space on the far end of the drop-off zone in front of the building for food trucks, booking through the facility is required.

    • What are the pool features?
      • Eight lane 50-metre lap pool
      • Diving boards: 1 & 3-metre spring board and 5-metre platform
      • Leisure pool with 3 swim lanes, lazy river, various water features, family and adult hot pools (ramp, transfer ledge, or lift), tot zone, and beach entry.
      • Steam room and sauna
      • Accessible gendered and universal change rooms with access to a motorized adult change table.

What are the community centre features?

      • Multi-purpose rooms for community recreation programs, meeting spaces, and special events
      • Community gathering spaces
      • Accessible universal washrooms and accessible change room with motorized adult change table

      Is there a playground?

There are two playgrounds. Both will generally be open to the public, with the exception of the playground for children aged 0-5, situated adjacent to the childcare space. This playground will be closed to the public during daytime hours (about 1-2 hours a day) when in use by the childcare facility. Clear signage will indicate when this area is closed to the public.

What are the change spaces like?

Accessible gendered and universal change rooms will be available with lockers, private change stalls and showers, with soap provided. Two fully accessible change stalls with adjustable adult change tables are located in the universal change room and recreation side by the gymnasium on the first floor.

Do I need a coin or my own lock for lockers?

Lockers located in the accessible gendered and universal Aquatics change rooms are free and do not require a coin or a personal lock. Simply place items in the locker, lift handle, push locker closed, lower handle to close the locker, turn the key and remove.

Wallet lockers located near the gymnasiums are $0.25 for use. Gymnasium and Fitness Centre users are welcome to use the free lockers in the Aquatics area.

Can I bring food with us to the pool?

Food is not allowed on the pool deck or change areas. Space is available in the community living room to enjoy food and drink after your activity.

      Will the pool(s) use chlorine?

Yes. A pre-swim shower helps to eliminate perspiration, body oils, and bacteria from entering the water. When you wash away the impurities, the chlorine in the pool doesn’t have to work as hard, leaving the water cleaner and the air we breathe fresher.
Learn more about how to Keep it Fresh!
