Project Details
Construction of Location 2 of the Queensborough Shoreline Rehabilitation is scheduled to begin in August 2025, with final completion expected in Winter 2025. This phase builds on the successful stabilization works completed in Location 1 and continues the City’s commitment to enhancing shoreline resilience along the Queensborough foreshore.
The Queensborough Shoreline Rehabilitation Project focuses on rebuilding and reinforcing a section of the dyke to enhance its structural stability and resilience. The project involves the removal of invasive plant species, unsuitable soils, and outdated materials, followed by the import of structural fills and rock to strengthen the shoreline. These improvements are critical for protecting the dyke against erosion and ensuring its long-term reliability for flood prevention.
In addition to the structural enhancements, the project includes a comprehensive re-vegetation plan. Native and non-invasive plant species will be introduced to restore the natural environment, enhance the ecological health of the shoreline, and improve the visual appeal of the area. This rehabilitation effort reflects the City’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure and environmental stewardship.
Construction of Location 1 was completed in July 2025. The work included removing unstable timber and debris, reshaping the slope, placing geotextile and protective rock armour, and implementing native shoreline plantings. These measures have strengthened the dyke, improved habitat function, and enhanced visual quality along the waterfront.
Project Timeline
Construction for Location 2 will begin in August 2025, with work continuing through the fall and into Winter 2025. The project is expected to take approximately 4-6 months to complete, depending on weather conditions and tidal access.
Work will be carried out in stages to limit disruption to nearby residents and protect environmental features along the shoreline.
What's Next?
As construction begins on Location 2, the following activities are expected in the coming weeks:
- Contractor mobilization to the site, including equipment delivery and staging
- Installation of construction fencing along the shoreline work zone for public safety
- Temporary parking restrictions in adjacent areas to accommodate machinery and materials
Residents will be notified in advance of any impacts to access or public pathways. Regular updates will be shared as work progresses through Fall and Winter 2025.
Traffic Impacts
During construction of Location 2, residents and visitors can expect:
- Equipment access and activity along the shoreline
- Periodic traffic control or parking restrictions in adjacent areas
- Minimal noise and dust as heavy machinery stabilizes the slope
Construction sequencing will be designed to minimize impacts, and the project team will monitor environmental conditions closely. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we complete these vital works.
