Department Overview

New Westminster Fire and Rescue Services is one of the longest serving fire departments in the Province.  Dedicated personnel utilize technology, modern fire suppression methods, emergency medical care as well as hazardous materials equipment and technical rescue capacity to serve the community 24 hours a day.

In order to be fully prepared to respond to emergency situations, staff regularly train, update and expand the skills that are required to maintain effective readiness to protect the community.

Each of the three City Fire Halls is equipped with modern firefighting apparatus capable of delivering personnel, water and equipment to emergency scenes anywhere in the City.  In November 2016, the department took ownership of two Pierce Enforcer engines equipped with two stage pumps for fighting high-rise fires.

Our Public Safety and Prevention Division promotes fire and life safety within the City for residents, business owners and visitors.  In the Spring of 2017 New Westminster Fire & Rescue Services hired a Fire Protection Engineer to enhance our service delivery model.  Fire Protection Officers ensure that all buildings are compliant with the BC Fire Code and all department personnel facilitate fire and life safety education sessions which is key to preventing fires and eliminating property loss and serious injury.

The Fire Chief, management team, support staff and uniformed personnel in New Westminster Fire and Rescue Services are organized to meet all the requirements a modern fire service needs in order to fully protect the community.  The reporting structure allows several teams to coordinate work simultaneously and provide prevention and response capacity to the public 24/7.
