Committees and Policies
ACTBiPed Committee
This committee represents the interests of pedestrians in New Westminster by reviewing, advising and making recommendations for City policies, issues, facilities and programs. The committee aims to help integrate walking, cycling, and transit use into the transportation system in order to support a socially equitable, economically viable, and environmentally friendly city.
Access Ability Advisory Committee
To assess improvements which would enhance the mobility and comfort of the disabled within the City and its public buildings. The vast knowledge and expert advice of the committee assists both the able and disabled residents, business and facilities in New Westminster.
Seniors Advisory Committee
The Seniors Advisory Committee considers and evaluates issues referred to it from City Council, initiates studies on matters deemed to be of concern to seniors and submits recommendations to Council. The role of the Seniors Advisory Committee is to provide advice to Council on long term planning issues for present and future New Westminster seniors, such as transportation and housing, and short-term issues related to seniors, such as access to shopping services, developments and proposals. The Committee also acts as a resource for seniors by receiving input from individuals and groups and making recommendations to appropriate bodies through Council.
Master Transportation Plan (MTP)
Promoting walking is one of the top priorities of the MTP. The focus of the City’s efforts to create a walkable city is on making walking a safe, comfortable, accessible and pleasant mobility choice for people of all ages and abilities.
