Developed in Japan and introduced to the U.S. market in 1962, this cross of Red Delicious and Virginia Ralls Genet quickly became a national favorite. Fruit is large to very large with firm, sweet, and crisp flesh. Dull reddish skin is sometimes russeted. Self-fruitful and with a chilling requirement of less than 500 hours, it offers a very long shelf life compared to other apples.
