Public Health Orders

Public health orders placed by the Provincial Heath Officer are subject to change at anytime. We will do our best to communicate any updates as quickly as possible. 

Services Changes

In response to public health orders updated on January 18, 2022, we are making adjustments to our recreation operations. 


  • Reserved Fitness Centre (11 - 18 years) at New West Youth Centre, open. See newwestcity.ca/youthdropin
  • Reserved Fitness Centre (14+ years) at Century House and Queensborough Community Centre, opening January 24, Reservation required. Book online: newwestcity.ca/fitness
  • Reserved Group Fitness at Centennial Community Centre, Century House and Queensborough Community Centre, resuming January 24. Reservation required. Book online: newwestcity.ca/fitness
  • Reserved Skating at Moody Park Arena & Queen’s Park Arena. Capacity reduced. Reservation required. Book online: newwestcity.ca/skating
  • Preschool, Children and Youth programs, lessons and activities have not changed. 
  • Recreational activities such as gymnastics, trampoline, arts, crafts, music, drop-in sports have not changed. 


  • All indoor gatherings such as meetings, weddings, receptions and funerals are cancelled. 
  • Sports tournaments (indoor and outdoor) are cancelled. 
  • Seated events are reduced to 50% capacity. 
  • ActivePass memberships will be placed on hold. When memberships are reactivated, you will receive an extension for the number of days the pass was on hold.

Masks are Mandatory.

In accordance with public health orders, masks are required in all public indoor settings for all people born in 2016 or earlier (5+) when not eating or engaged in physical activity. Masks  encouraged for children aged 2 - 5 years. It is expected that all participants are considerate to other patrons as comfort levels and safety needs may vary.

Proof of Vaccination requirements.

In accordance with public health orders, effective October 25, 2021, proof of having received 2 doses of vaccine is required to participate in some recreational activities. 

Proof of vaccination (2 doses) is required for:

  • Participants (12+ years) of multigenerational services such as public skating
  • Spectators (12+ years) of sports and recreation programs and services
  • Parents and guardians (19+ years) assisting, watching or participating in Parks and Recreation services for children and youth, including programs requiring parent participation
  • Members of the public (22+ years) entering a recreation facility

Proof of vaccination is NOT required for:

  • Children 0 - 12 years
  • Participants (12 - 21 years) in child and youth sport and recreational programs (e.g. lessons, art classes, parent & tot programs etc.)
  • Parents in parenting education programs or breast feeding programs

Please Have Ready:

  1. valid government issued photo identification, with your date of birth (i.e. driver’s license) required for ages 19 + years
  2. proof of vaccination (i.e. BC Vaccine Card).

If you are unsure if you will need proof of vaccination, please have it ready when you arrive.

Canada Games Pool to be decommissioned

The City of New Westminster has made the difficult decision to decommission the Canada Games Pool effective immediately.

Parking Information

Patrons of Centennial Community Centre, please be advised parking volumes in the Cumberland parking lot are expected to increase this fall. Parking is limited and facility users should plan to arrive early and are encouraged to consider alternate ways to arrive on site, such as walking, cycling, or transit, and when possible, to take advantage of the drop-off zone.
