New Westminster City Council has adopted a new rate structure that reflects an across-the-board 2.8% rate increase effective January 1, 2020.
The electricity bill for a residential household using an average of 1,000 kWh would increase by $3.41 per month or $41.00 per year.
Additionally, New Westminster City Council recently approved a new Climate Action Levy to help fund the City’s climate emergency response. Half of the current 5% rate rider (2.5%) plus an additional 1% will be allocated to this new levy. The introduction of the Climate Action Levy effective January 1, 2020, will result in an increase of $1.25 per month or $15 per year based on a residential household using an average of 1,000 kWh.
Even with the new approved rate adjustments, the City of New Westminster Electric Utility rates remain on average among the lowest in North America.
