BCBC 2024 : The 2024 Edition of the British Columbia Building Code is now in effect. All permit applications made to the Building Division from March 8th 2024 onwards, must comply with the new provisions of the updated code. For more information regarding the new edition of the code, key changes to the code, and to view the BCBC 2024 in full, please visit

COLD WEATHER CONCRETE POURS : When the air temperature is below 5° C, special considerations for concrete pours must be given. Poured concrete must be maintained at a temperature of 10° C for a period of at least 72 hours. Contractors and Builders will be asked how they will maintain this temperature for the set period of time, a Field Review prior to Forms Inspection from a Professional Engineer confirming approval of cold weather concrete plan will be required. If City Staff deem the heating plan to be unsatisfactory, the Forms Inspection will not be conducted until after temperatures are forecasted increase above 5° C for a continuous 72 hour period.
NEW PROVINCIAL ASBESTOS REGULATIONS : As of January 1, 2024, asbestos abatement contractors must be licensed to operate in British Columbia, and anyone performing asbestos abatement work in relation to buildings must be certified. Visit https://www.worksafebc.com/en/health-safety/hazards-exposures/asbestos for more information.
IN PERSON APPOINTMENTS : City Hall is open to the general public, however, due to staff rotations and to ensure that there is a member of staff available to help you, we encourage you to schedule an appointment by submitting an appointment request. All inquiries should be primarily by telephone or email. In person meetings, for the submission of paper copies or for the payment of fees will be scheduled by Building Staff, at the request of a permit applicant.
RESPONSE AND SERVICE DELAYS : Please be advised that residents, applicants and other project stakeholders may experience delays when seeking some City services. We are currently facing a staffing shortage, and some departments are also working through an increased volume of inquiries and/or applications.
All departments are actively recruiting and training new staff to fill the gaps, however it will take time to get up caught up on workloads.
We understand the frustration delays cause. Rest assured, we are working as quickly as possible to overcome these issues and are reprioritizing projects where needed to ensure we are continuing to provide core services. We thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.
