BUILDING DIVISION NEWS AND UPDATES
Effective immediately, and until further notice, the City of New Westminster has implemented the following permit and inspection protocols to maintain these services, while creating the required social distancing, and limiting person-to-person contact.
Building and Plumbing Inspections are occurring for select project types. Please note that prior to entering a site or building, Inspectors will be asking a series of questions, to confirm that site contacts, trades, owners, and contractors are not showing symptoms of COVID-19 and have not been ordered to isolate by the Public Health Office. Inspectors may also request that the structure be vacated during the inspection, at the Inspectors discretion.
In order to apply for a permit, you can either apply ONLINE or by emailing all required application documents and drawings to . All applications will have a preliminary review, and once confirmed suitable for submission, Building Staff will work with the applicant to schedule an in-person appointment to submit any required documents and for payment of application fees.
City Hall is open to the general public, however, due to staff rotations and to ensure that there is a member of staff available to help you, we encourage you to schedule an appointment by submitting an APPOINTMENT REQUEST. All inquiries should be primarily by telephone or email. In person meetings, for the submission of paper copies or for the payment of fees will be scheduled by Building Staff, at the request of a permit applicant.

ONLINE PERMIT APPLICATIONS
Our Online Permit Application program is now available for select permit types, including constructing new or renovations to single detached dwellings, demolition permits, multi-family suite alterations, plumbing trade permits and tree permits. Should you have any questions, or need assistance, please contact the Building Division.
Building and Plumbing Inspectors are available for phone calls from 8:30 am to 9:30 am Monday to Friday.
