Public Engagement Opportunities

The City of New Westminster recognizes the need for high-quality public engagement - not as a nice-to-have, but as a central component of how the City does business and delivers services to community members. We are committed to investing in new ways to meaningfully engage the public in order to be able to shape New Westminster's future together in a proactive way. Find out more below!

  • Throughout 2015 and 2016 the Mayor’s Task Force on Public Engagement worked to review the City’s engagement practices, and gathered input from community members to create a vision for the future of civic participation in New Westminster.

In December 2016, City Council adopted a new Public Engagement Strategy that provides guidance for the City’s practices and aids in the delivery of high-quality public consultation. The strategy includes a set of principles that establish the goals and standards for good public engagement in New Westminster. The action plan identifies recommendations and details strategic priorities, which were developed by the Public Engagement Task Force.

In January 2020, the City hired a Manager of Public Engagement to continue implementing the strategy and action plan. The Public Engagement Manager also supports staff with their consultation and engagement initiatives, and works to foster new relationships with the community and other stakeholders.

Thank you for participating - we look forward to hearing from you!
