Towing

***We have moved, our new address is 420 Boyne Street***

PLEASE NOTE:

Due to the precautions we are taking to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we are limiting our availability to the public.

If you have a vehicle that is in our impound lot that is releasable, we ask that you contact the office at 604-519-1026 prior to coming to ensure staff are available and prepared.

The City of New Westminster Towing & Storage office is located at 420 Boyne Street in the Queensborough Neighbourhood.

Regular office hours are Monday to Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Please note that staff do take a lunch break and may be unavailable during that time.

Our drivers operate on a 24 hour basis and are able to answer calls after hours; however, they may not be able to answer specific questions related to your vehicle. Releasing of a vehicle may be done after hours if a tow driver is available to meet with you, however vehicles impounded by the New Westminster Police or the RCMP cannot be released outside of regular office hours.

For 30 day releases please note an Order of Releases MUST be obtained from the Motor Vehicle branch (ICBC Driver's Licensing Facility) prior to picking up the vehicle.

Payment methods are by Debit, Visa, Mastercard or cash. At this time, we prefer payment by card if that option is available. If a vehicle release is being done after hours, keep in mind that tow drivers do not carry change.

If you believe that your vehicle may have been towed, please contact the office during regular office hours at 604-519-1026.

  • If you are planning to pick up a vehicle that has been impounded by the New Westminster Police or the RCMP, you will need to do so during regular office hours as per the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles. If you vehicle was impounded for 30 days or more, please note that you will need to attend a Driver’s Licensing Centre in order to get an order of release prior to picking up your vehicle. If your driver’s license has been suspended, you will need to make sure to bring a licensed driver with you to operate your vehicle. Vehicles cannot be released without a valid driver’s license.

If your vehicle was impounded and you need to access it to retrieve personal belongings (vehicle license plates and parts MUST remain with the vehicle and cannot be removed), you will be required to pay a $100 deposit that will go towards the balance of your vehicle at the end of the impoundment period. The registered owner is the only one able to retrieve belongings.

  • If your vehicle was towed for a parking bylaw, you will need to provide a valid driver’s license and pay the towing & storage fees in order for the vehicle to be released. Parking bylaws do come with parking tickets, which can be paid at our office or by following the directions on the back of the ticket which will be given to the driver when the vehicle is picked up. Please note that parking tickets are through the City of New Westminster and the cost will go up after 14 days if not paid. You may also be at risk of being towed again if there is another parking bylaw violation and outstanding tickets.

Vehicles cannot be parked on a city street without valid insurance and license plates. If your vehicle was towed, you will need to provide proof of insurance and plates prior to releasing the vehicle, or hire a tow company to remove the vehicle for you after you have provided proof of ownership and paid all towing and storage fees.

For further information related to parking bylaw impoundments, please review the street and traffic bylaw.

  • If your vehicle was towed after a motor vehicle accident, please contact ICBC as soon as possible and provide us with the claim number. If you do not have coverage, you will be responsible for the towing and storage charges of your vehicle, so it is important to confirm with ICBC in order to avoid additional costs.
