City of New Westminster designated a HEART and HEARTH community
The City of New Westminster is pleased to have been designated a HEART and HEARTH community by the Province. HEART stands for Homeless Encampment Action Response Teams; HEARTH stands for Homeless Encampment Action Response Temporary Housing. The HEART and HEARTH programs are part of the Belonging in BC homelessness plan to prevent and reduce homelessness.
Through funding from HEART and HEARTH, the hours of operation at the 50-bed Purpose Shelter—located at 502 Columbia Street—will change to 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Previously, the shelter was operating 12 hours a day, seven days a week.
