Special Pick Up Service

Did you know? As an alternative, you can bring items to the United Blvd. Waste & Recycling Centre in Coquitlam. Charges may apply. Find out more information here.

Reminder:  there will not be any Special Pick-ups the week of May 18th due to the stat holiday.

For larger items requiring disposal, the City may be able to offer a special pick-up where the items can be collected for a fee. Please refer to the information below on what items are Accepted/Not Accepted as part of the Special Pick-Up Service.

To initiate a special pick-up, please complete the form below.  Staff will respond with a quote for the pick-up fee and instructions on payment if you wish to proceed. Items with bedbugs must be disclosed in advance and wrapped in plastic.

 
Please note: Some restrictions apply. No refunds will be issued once payment is made. Special pick-ups are scheduled on Thursdays (no pick-ups during weeks affected by a stat holiday).
  • These rates are in effect Jan. 1, 2026.

    Minimum fee for service, includes one (1) item: $55.00

    For every (1) additional mattress item: $35.00

    For every (1) additional box spring item: $30.00

    For every (1) additional bulky item (appliance or furniture): $30.00

    • Small appliances (Microwaves, toasters/toaster ovens, coffee makers, etc.)

     

    Indoor Upholstered and Non-Upholstered Furniture:

    • Couches (including sectional/hide-a-beds)
    • Futons
    • Chairs (including office chairs)
    • Coffee and dining tables (no glass)
    • Desks
    • Dressers
    • TV stands
    • Cabinets (must be broken down/collapsed)
    • Tables
    • Cribs
    • Shelves/shelving units (must be broken down/collapsed)
    • Mattresses (plastic wrapped)
    • Box springs
    • Bed frames (indicate if metal or wood)
    • Small area rugs, under 4x4 feet (wrapped and taped)

     

    Outdoor Patio Furniture and Appliances:

    • Chairs
    • Patio Tables (no glass)
    • Patio Umbrellas
    • Barbeques (remove propane tanks, briquettes, coals, or lava rocks)
    • Small propane fire pits (remove propane tanks, lava rocks)

    Hazardous Materials, Medical Equipment and Waste, Toxins or Chemicals of any kind including:

    • Paints and solvents (labeled or un-labeled containers)
    • Waste with PCB or containing Dioxin
    • Oil/fuel
    • Asbestos
    • Leachable toxic waste
    • Corrosive materials
    • Explosive materials
    • Any waste listed in Schedule 7 of Hazardous Waste Regulation B.C. Reg. 63/88

Note: This information is collected by the City of New Westminster under Section 26(c) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and will be used to process and manage your special pick up request. There is no obligation to proceed with the pick-up after receiving a quote. Special pick-ups are only finalized once payment is received. Be advised, no refunds will be issued once payment is made. 

We will respond back with a quote within five (5) business days.

PAYMENT OPTIONS

Once you have reviewed the quote, you will need to complete payment in order to proceed and confirm the pick-up request. Payment deadline is Tuesday at 4:30 pm in order to make Thursdays collection of the same week (no collection on weeks with a statutory holiday).

Make a payment:

  1. To Pay In Person: bring your fee slip (either a printed or a digital copy on your phone/device) to one of these locations:
  • City Hall, 511 Royal Ave, cashier desk on main level, Mon-Fri, 8:30am – 4:30pm
  • Queensborough Community Centre, 920 Ewen Ave, front desk, Mon-Fri 7:00am – 9:00pm or Sat/Sun 8:30am – 8:00pm
  • təməsew̓txʷ Aquatic and Community Centre, 65 E Sixth Ave, front desk, Mon-Fri between 9:00 am - 5:30 pm only.
  1. Pay Online: go to newwestcity.ca/onlineservices, scroll to “Payments and Renewals”, select “Pay for a Special Pick Up”, enter folder number shown on fee slip and complete payment details.

 

PREPARING FOR PICK-UP

Once your payment has been processed, please be sure to have item(s) out at the curb or other designated location, by 7:00 am on collection day. 

All mattresses must be wrapped in plastic. Mattress covers can be purchased from a moving supply store. Disassemble large items, or notify us if you are unable to do so.

Trucks collect between the hours of 7:00 am and 4:00 pm, and in some circumstances more than one truck may be collecting that day; please do not contact the Public Works Office about missed pick-up until the following day.
