Rebates for Solar Panels & Battery Storage

Save up to $10,000 on eligible solar panels and battery storage
The City of New Westminster in collaboration with BC Hydro is offering rebates up to $5,000 on eligible grid-connected solar panels and up to an additional $5,000 for battery storage systems to qualifying residential customers. You can install solar panels or a battery, or both to maximize the value of your project and your rebate.
The Solar PV and Battery Storage program is one of the ways the City will progress towards meeting its targets outlined in the Seven Bold Steps for Climate Action. This rebate program supports increased access to Carbon Free Energy (Bold Step 5), Carbon Free Homes and Buildings (Bold Step 3) and Pollution Free Vehicles (Bold Step 4). Additionally, we’re also helping meet the province's growing need for renewable electricity and providing you with more options for managing your energy use.

How to apply
- Before you purchase or install your system, review the eligibility criteria, terms and conditions below, and requirements to connect your system to our electrical grid through the Electrical Net Metering Program.
- Find a licensed contractor to design and install your solar and/or battery storage system. The Canadian Renewable Energy Association and the BC Sustainable Energy Association provide helpful public directories. We recommend getting at least three quotes and comparing your quote to B.C. cost averages.
- Before you install, work with your contractor to apply for the Solar PV & Battery Storage program.
- Once your application is pre-approved, you may purchase your equipment and have your licensed contractor install the system.
- After you have submitted your final inspection documents and have received approval from New West Electrical Utility to interconnect your system, your rebate application will be processed and paid within 60 business days.
