Eligibility criteria

The lights at City Hall can be illuminated for holidays and city-wide events. We also accept requests from community groups for special occasions.

Eligible requests:

• Application must support a local, provincial or national awareness issue that builds local community or is related to community health.
• Application supports an event of local, provincial or national significance.
• Application supports a local festival or event that positively impacts the community.

Requests that will not be considered:

• Requests that contravene a City policy or bylaw
• Personal requests
• Political requests
• Commercial requests

Application requirements

Timeline

• Application must be received a minimum of 30 days prior to requested date.
• Applications received less than 30 days in advance may be considered but cannot be guaranteed.

Lighting rules

• Lighting is limited to the date(s) of significance, pending availability.
• Lights are lit from dusk until dawn

Required information

Applications must include:

• Description of the event (maximum 250 characters)
• Website link for more information
• Colour preferences (maximum two colours)
• Specific date or date range up to 7 days (e.g. May 1, or May 1-7)

Note: If your requested date is unavailable, staff will contact you with alternate options.

How to apply

1. Complete the City Hall Lighting Request Form
2. Mayor’s Office staff will review your application
3. Staff will contact you once approved
4. Once approved, a calendar of events listing will be created on the City's website

Important: Incomplete applications will not be considered. Please provide at least 30 days’ notice for consideration of your application.
