Recreation

Parks and Recreation offers residents and visitors a selection of community, sports, cultural, heritage and age based centres.

The goal of our centres is to offer excellence in service delivery that promotes social, mental, educational, skill, health and leisure development.

Each season we release a leisure guide, the Active Living Guide, which outlines our services by age group and activity.

  • We're Committed

The City of New Westminster has in place an initiative to enhance the protection and personal safety of children who attend City of New Westminster facilities. With support from the Canadian Centre for Child Protection (C3P), the City of New Westminster has implemented a plan to examine and enhance the safety policies, reporting procedures and staff training at City-operated facilities in order to help protect children from sexual abuse and exploitation.

The Commit to Kids program offers a comprehensive approach to preventing child sexual abuse in child-serving organizations, such as sport leagues, schools, childcare centres, music programs, recreations programs and services, etc. There are also resources available for parents, so together with the organization, adults can take an active, participatory role in protecting children in their care.

The Commit to Kids program empowers individuals with knowledge about what constitutes high-risk behaviour and situations, and how to confidently go about bringing forward concerns that don’t constitute abuse but are behaviours considered to be inappropriate or misconduct. The program includes tools to help organizations develop guidelines around professional boundaries for adults working with children. These guidelines help manage risk and promote the protection of children.
